Mercury is turning Retrograde in Cancer… What does this mean?
Mercury stations Retrograde in sign of Cancer. When a planet stations Retrograde, it means that from Earth’s vantage point, the planet has slowed down enough relative to Earth’s motion, that the planet appears to be moving backward. What this means astrologically is that all things that are Mercury ruled will seem to be delayed, require adjustments and revisions, and/or be miscommunicated or misrepresented entirely. Mercury in astrology rules communication of all kinds, any ways of communicating or connecting (including cellphones, letters, e-mails, etc), transportation (cars, planes, trains), and the mind and how we think. Depending on where Mercury is located in your personal chart and how it is placed will also determine how rough the Mercury Retrograde tends to be for you, and where Mercury is in the sky during the retrograde in juxtaposition to your chart also will show how the retrograde will tend to show up for you.

First we’ll take a look at how things look on a day-to-day aspect, then we’ll discuss the overall themes of this retrograde period, finally, we’ll go through the Horizon Horoscopes for this Mercury Retrograde (horoscopes for each individual rising sign).
This Mercury Retrograde in Cancer will begin on June 29th, 2026 and will end on July 23rd, 2026.

- 7/6/2026 – 🌊💙 A great day for reminiscing, valuing family and friends, and staying in-tune with your feelings and emotions. Do a deep dive on what you feel today.
- 7/8/2026 – 😖😩 Tensions may run high today – another day to try to avoid taking things too personally.
- 7/12/2026 – ☀️📝 Shine the light on things that need re-evaluated, re-done, or just plain reviewed. Don’t let things go unsaid or swept under the rug.
- 7/14/2026 – 🍰💗 Work through those extra comforting emotions right now. Who makes you feel valued and emotionally cared for? Make sure you’re providing that for yourself as well.

Overall Themes of this Retrograde:
This Mercury Retrograde will be entirely in the sign of Cancer ♋️🦀 which is a sign that involves themes of family, ancestry, the past. There is an aspect that will not be completed with Jupiter and Mercury, in hellenistic astrology this is called refrenation and involves something being close to happening, but then being taken away or not completed. Something that was looking like it was going to happen may not during this time period.
This Mercury Retrograde in particular may deal with themes of the past or past people popping back up in your life. Dreams about the past or past circumstances are likely as are nostalgic moments. Using this time to introspect about your past and themes in your life that continually repeat is a great use of this retrograde.
Another theme during this retrograde is to expect the unexpected! Things that are not in the playbook may occur, so get ready to roll with the punches and be super flexible – you got this! There may be a tendency during this time frame to take things personally or become defensive – resist this urge, becoming defensive doesn’t improve the situation and taking things personally really only upsets yourself.
Of course, the standard themes during any Mercury Retrograde will be in full force with an extra watery and emotional overlay. We are in store for lots of miscommunications, delays, misunderstandings, and revisions/reviews. Don’t just double-check, triple-check. Did that e-mail get the attachment? Did you remember to press send? Did you pass the message to the right person? Are you communicating clearly and concisely? What is getting confused? If Aries was rising on the horizon when you were born, there may be misunderstandings, miscommunications, reviewing, delays, or re-doing things in the home or involving the family. Do you have a shared family calendar? Make sure everything is on it. Communicate times and dates clearly as well as appointments. Don’t let miscommunications lead you to taking things personally, let things roll off your back. Is there something about your properties or home that is being miscommunicated or misunderstood? This would NOT be a wise time to purchase any properties or real estate, something about those properties may not be communicated or may be misunderstood. Put this off until after August 6th if at all possible. Do not make changes to any properties if you can help it, this would not be an ideal time to start construction either – things will be delayed. This area of the chart can also indicate fathers and can represent miscommunications or misunderstandings involving the father.
♉︎ TAURUS ♉︎
Get ready for lots of miscommunications. There may be misunderstandings, delays, and review needed in all areas of communication; texts, e-mails, in person, as well as cars, short trips, and neighborhood as well. This would NOT be a wise time to buy a car if you can help it at all, something about it will be miscommunicated or misunderstood. Try to avoid any big purchases, especially car purchases until after August 7th. If you plan to drive or fly anywhere during this time be prepared for delays, your flights may be delayed or there may be detours if you’re driving. Double and triple check reservations, as things tend to not be finalized during this time. Save all your receipts and confirmations. This would be a great time to introspect, write, and journal. Keep a log of how you’re feeling and try not to communicate in a way that comes from your emotions, try to think through things first before communicating only with your emotion. Avoid taking things too personally if you can during this time.

There may be lots of miscommunications, misunderstandings, delays, or review associated with money and possessions. You may have had something you were looking forward to or hoping for that you feel like fell out of your grasp in regards to money. Things may be delayed during this time and that may cause frustrations. For you especially, any big purchases should be avoided if at all possible during this time, you may either regret the purchases, or there may be things miscommunicated to you about what you’re purchasing, or something you do not understand about what you’re purchasing. It will be important to keep receipts during this time period just incase. It would be best to avoid big purchases entirely until after August 7th if at all possible. Remember to try not to take things personally in communication and try your best not to misunderstand or miscommunicate as much as possible. Double and triple check the to-do list and don’t cross things off until after they’re done.

Things may feel like they’re really discombobulated during this time, you may feel things are getting miscommunicated or that you are entirely being misunderstood yourself. Keep yourself from acting on your emotions during this time. Keep all of the Mercury Retrograde do’s and don’t’s in mind, review things before finalizing, repeat things that need repeated, re-do things that need re-done. These themes may be very present during this time. This is a great time to do a deep dive into what makes you feel emotionally supported and structured and how you want to communicate emotionally. However, it’s also a time that the reminder will be needed not to take things personally or to react emotionally to things instead of being logical and focused on reality. If you’re able, avoid all big purchases until after August 7th.

There may be misunderstandings specifically centering around hidden enemies, hidden strengths and weaknesses, anything secret, isolation, or incarcerations/hospitalizations. If you have secrets that could come out, this could be the time those surface, especially if they have to do with emotionally driven, or family secrets. There could be misunderstandings around these topics, confused secrets. If people are playing telephone, things could start to get misconstrued. If you are someone that has mental health struggles of any kind, be mindful during this season and if there is any backtracking in your progress be kind to yourself. Use your support system during this time with delays and miscommunications that may happen and lean on the people that you care about. Be extra mindful about taking things too personally – try to let things roll off your back.

Here come the miscommunications with friends & teams. Make sure to be as clear and concise as possible with your friends and the teams you are a part of. It’s necessary not to play telephone during this time – don’t let things get away from the source, if you need to say things multiple times, then you do. Don’t let misunderstandings lead to taking things personally and arguments with people you care about. Review what you’re sending before you hit the button, you may have to revisit emotional situations from the past with friends and it may even get uncomfortable, but it will get sorted out if you can have direct and clear communication.
