What is Astrology?

Oxford Dictionary describes astrology as,

“the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world”

Oxford English Dictionary

Astrology is the mapping of the planets on the ecliptic at any given time of any event past, present or future. The relationship of the planets in their placements & in relation to the other planets/points on the ecliptic give the Astrologer important information about circumstances surrounding the individual born at that time or the event set for that time.

Reading astrological charts is like reading another language. Each of the planetary symbols represents a different archetype & different parts of the psyche as well as different parts of the external life. All of life’s circumstances are found in the natal chart (the chart erected at the exact moment of an individual’s first breath).

Seeing the way planets moving now in the sky on the ecliptic affect each individual person’s natal chart will show a lot about the circumstances they are currently going through, when it will end, and the underlying reasons for the process. While astrology can’t take away pain, or make certain things easier to go through, it can sometimes identify when certain things will pass or become easier.

Astrology can help you understand yourself better, instinct and innate habits and personality patterns that you may be unconscious of yourself until they are mentioned. You may even be defensive about certain qualities of yourself, denying their presence. Taking a deep dive into your personality can help you understand yourself and your automatic judgments & reactions and help to be the best person you can be. You will also have the opportunity to appreciate and highlight your strengths and maximize your potential.

Astrology can be used for almost any purpose you could possibly think of: Predicting life changing events, choosing dates for events so the outcome will be beneficial, asking questions you would like an answer to, evaluating your personality (or the personality of a loved one), evaluating how to better communicate with and support your loved ones, and how to get along with the ones around you with ease. (And a lot more that is not listed of course).

My personal favorite type of astrology is Natal Astrology, or the study of natal or birth charts. It gives a map to an individuals personality & psyche as well as circumstances of their life. It can help you truly understand someone else and why they act the way they do, and furthermore what they need from me in any kind of relationship (sibling, friendship, partner, parent, etc). Astrology has not only helped me understand the depths and complexities of my own personality, both the contradictory aspects and those that are harmonious, and to understand those closest to me as well. Astrology is an invaluable tool that I cannot imagine my life without.

Astrology is not supernatural, or occult science, or dangerous, or anything that many people make it out to be. It’s mathematical positions of planets and understanding the meanings behind different symbols. Much like reading a map. It isn’t something dangerous or something to be afraid of. I think of it as the celestial clock. It shows no more and no less than a watch showing that tomorrow there will be a 1:00 PM and that there will be a Tuesday next week. Because of the mathematical movement of the planets, you can think of the sky as a giant clock signifying certain times & events that mean certain things.
